Dr. Beaf Rough around the edges, slightly rawcuss and very entertaining. There's a bunch of things happening throughout this album. Eg, 'Tree almost hit my car' in track Eagle is pretty awesome example of the potential this band has in music execution and vocal harmonies. Great energy fused with some cool musical structures. Favorite track: Geneçambique.

"They were terrific" - All Songs Considered - NPR

"Sunga is only available in Japan and their native country, but believe us when we inform you that it’s nothing short of advanced perfection. If their music doesn’t penetrate your hips wiggle button and cause the corners of your mouth to lift upwards then you need to check your pulse. The tropical indie music they make is so utterly infectious that your movements will be involuntary whether you like it or not". The Recommender (therecommender.net/2011/06/01/holger/)

"But the thing about Holger is: Cake Shop could have been overrun by rabid wolves. New York City could have crumbled into the ocean. And they’d still be one of the most enjoyable live bands out there.- MTV Iggy (blog.mtviggy.com/2010/09/27/concert-review-brazils-holger-at-cake-shop-nyc-short-and-very-very-sweet/)

"Best discovery of Pop Montreal" - Paste Magazine

"The thing is though: their fun, sunny, afro-instrumented indie rock is worlds away from most all of the music that is locally produced". - IM//UR (imyouare.com/search/+holger)

Few independent Brazilian bands are getting everyone's attention as São Paulo's Holger. The band first appeared with The Green Valley EP, that brought a collection of songs that could be described as influenced by the "classical" indie rock from Pavement, Flaming Lips, Wilco and Dinossaur Jr.

Soon their energetic and unpredictable performances gained the attention of the ones more in tune with the country's emerging new music. Playing concerts all over the country, they had the opportunity to share the stage with bands like Dirty Projectors, No Age, Matt & Kim, Super Furry Animals, among others, and also traveled abroad for festivals like South by Southwest and Pop Montreal.

In 2010, the five piece act locked itself on the studio with american producer Roger Paul Mason and came up with their first full length Sunga, released by Trama - same label that brought CSS to the world and had artists like Tom Zé, Gal Costa and Nação Zumbi on its roster. The record incorporates a series of new elements to the band's sound, such as sinthesizers, percussion and plenty of african-brazilian rhythms. Also in 2010 they played for 20000 people at Planeta Terra Festival, along with acts like Hot Chip, Passion Pit and Pavement. In 2011 they were listed by both NPR's All Songs Considered and BBC's Jen Long as one of the best new bands at SxSW.

Sunga is out now in Brazil and Japan.
